On December 11, the American black comedy "Family Affair," directed by Alex Winter, premieres.

The plot follows siblings Noah and Megan as they return to their hometown to tidy up their parents' house before selling it. In the basement, they discover the long-buried body of a missing neighbor. The surprise could lead to scandal, loss of inheritance, and the exposure of family secrets. Instead of going to the police, Noah and Megan decide to cover their tracks by hiding their parents' crime. But when witnesses and blackmailers appear on the scene, the accomplices are forced to make an even more dubious decision.

The main roles are played by Kaya Scodelario ("Skins") and Josh Gad ("Frozen"). They are joined by Billie Lourd ("American Horror Story") and Anthony Carrigan ("Gotham").

Director Alex Winter also took on a role in his own film. He was previously better known as an actor, for example, starring alongside Keanu Reeves in the cult classic "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure."

"Family Affair" was first shown at the Toronto Film Festival in September 2025. The film has received praise from critics, who called it a cynical but very funny neo-noir about how we inevitably become our own parents. On the aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the film has a rating of 71%.

Winter holds dual citizenship: British and American. He was married to writer Sonia Dawson, with whom he had a son in 1998. The couple later divorced. In 2010, he married producer Ramsey Ann Naito. The couple has two children. In 2018, he revealed that he had suffered "intense and prolonged" sexual abuse during his childhood Broadway performances by an older man and experienced post-traumatic stress disorder but refused to name his abuser.

In response to the political activities of Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency in February 2025, Winter, a passionate electric vehicle owner, actively supported the expansion of nationwide protests at Tesla dealerships, urging the company to rid itself of Musk's "toxic figure."
