The public favorite has been battling a terrible diagnosis for 10 years.
At the Moscow Workshop "12" of Nikita Mikhalkov, the winners of the First Open Eurasian Film Award "Diamond Butterfly" were announced. Among them was actress Svetlana Kryuchkova.
The 75-year-old actress played a role in the touching film "Two in One Life, Not Counting the Dog." Svetlana Nikolaevna's filming partner was Alexander Adabashyan — their collaboration became special for them.
"This film can be said to be a return to the big screen for two not just wonderful, but legendary actors. 40 years ago, they starred together in the Sherlock Holmes film 'The Hound of the Baskervilles,' where they played the wonderful couple Berrymores. And now, for the first time in so many years, they are together on screen again, although they have been friends all these years," shared the film's producer Olga Granina with Metro.
For Svetlana Kryuchkova, this public appearance was the first in a long time. For many years, the star has suffered from health problems. In 2015, she was first diagnosed with lung cancer. This was followed by surgery abroad, chemotherapy, and the terrible illness retreated, albeit not forever.
For many years, the actress has been forced to fight against relapses of the disease, resorting to chemotherapy and hormones. Her weakened body forced Svetlana Kryuchkova to significantly reduce her public presence. She openly admits that her health is far from ideal. It was especially difficult for her during the coronavirus pandemic: serious complications arose, manifesting as facial paralysis, depression, sleep disturbances, and speech problems. But thanks to a new treatment course and recovery at a specialized sanatorium, the actress was able to return to her beloved work and usual way of life.
Despite the difficulties, Svetlana Nikolaevna speaks optimistically about work, the future, and clearly plans to surprise her fans with new roles. She approaches the choice of roles with particular seriousness and is not afraid to refuse projects that do not interest her.
"I constantly refuse roles because playing stereotypical grandmothers is absolutely uninteresting to me. Do you know what the hardest role was for me? In 'Old Maids.' Because I have never played everyday life. I play existence. But playing 'Marivanna' — I do that very poorly. It's all simple, but I'm not like that. This confuses many — those who do not want to see people as they are. According to stereotypes, I am big, round, and therefore, a fool. But I always said: 'The big and round one sits and reads, while the skinny one runs and pedals on the exercise bike,'" Svetlana Nikolaevna shared literally this summer in a conversation with the magazine "Kinoreporter."
