The British publication The Economist notes the 'high direction and unmatched drama' of the series.

The Russian series by Zhora Kryzhovnikov, 'The Word of a Guy. Blood on the Asphalt,' won the main prize at one of the largest international film festivals on the East Coast of the United States — the Richmond International Film Festival (RIFF). The show won in the Best of Festival for Episodic category, becoming the best series of the festival. This is the first foreign award that 'The Word of a Guy' has received.

RIFF is now in its 14th year, showcasing films and series from around the world. This year, 170 projects from more than 20 countries were presented, reports Orpheus Radio.

Previously, 'The Word of a Guy. Blood on the Asphalt' was shown at international film markets and attracted the attention of industry representatives from the UAE, India, Oman, Turkey, and South Korea. Rights were sold to Brazil, Mongolia, and countries in the Balkan region, where the show aired and received positive feedback from viewers.

The British publication The Economist notes the 'high direction and unmatched drama' of the series. The Economist writes: 'The darkest episodes of the series, filled with severed ears, rapes, and murders, clearly show that it does not promote violence.'

'A grim nihilistic show that Russians can’t stop watching,' remarked The New York Times, 'The streaming hit 'The Word of a Guy' about youth gangs in the final years of the Soviet Union grimly characterizes national sentiments.'

Here is how the main character Andrey is described: 'In just three episodes, he goes from Little Mozart to Ivan Drago. Russia will go through the same journey in three decades: from a young democracy seduced by the quantums of Harvard Business School to a rogue superpower embracing North Korea.'

'Andrey is an empty vessel. With plump lips and deeply set eyes, he resembles Justin Bieber without tattoos, but he is so demonstratively impassive that even the care he gives to his mother and sister does not evoke sympathy for him.'
