Blood types are unevenly distributed, and the rarest is O negative — it is found in only 8% of the population. Scientists claim that its carriers face a number of challenges that make their lives more difficult than others.
Challenges of Life with Blood Type O
The main danger for people with a negative Rh factor is Rh incompatibility during pregnancy. If the mother is Rh negative and the fetus is Rh positive, this can lead to miscarriage or stillbirth.
Additionally, a study from Harvard University has shown that people with blood type O negative are more likely to develop cancer. Researchers from Vermont add that such individuals often experience memory loss and senile dementia.
During the pandemic, this blood type showed the least resistance to the virus, and its carriers are more likely to suffer strokes.
Scientists consider blood type O to be the youngest — it is approximately one thousand years old. According to one theory, it arose from the mixing of Mongoloid and Europoid populations.

There is a small advantage: people with blood type O tolerate alcohol better. With the same amount consumed, they experience less severe hangovers.
In comparison, carriers of blood type A are more prone to alcoholism, and it is the most common blood type in Eastern Europe. Of course, alcohol absorption is influenced not only by blood type but also by genetics, physical condition, and drinking culture. However, owners of blood type O do indeed get drunk more slowly.
