The President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, honestly spoke about his eating habits in the show Zinātne vai muļķības (Science or Nonsense) and joked that the hosts of the program came to the wrong address, writes nra.lv.

In response to a question about a healthy lifestyle and nutrition, the President of Latvia admitted that he has never adhered to it — he eats unhealthy food and does not engage in sports.

During the celebration of the national holiday, he was invited to meet with students from various schools who were writing congratulations on the occasion of the Day of the Proclamation of the Latvian Republic. The younger students asked the president what he eats for breakfast.

"I honestly replied that it is often éclairs or croissants. I think the teachers were ready to finish me off, but I definitely gained a lot of popularity among the students," Rinkēvičs said with a laugh.

He suggested that in the following weeks, debates might have erupted in the students' families about what can be eaten for breakfast, referring to the fact that even the president eats unhealthy food.

The host also inquired how the head of state handles situations during diplomatic lunches or dinners if there is something on the plate that he does not like.

"At official events, at so-called receptions, the only one who ends up without food is the president himself," Rinkēvičs noted.

According to him, there simply isn't time for food, and there isn't much need for it either. However, at official lunches and dinners, there is always a choice offered, and officials are asked in advance. "There have never been any problems," he added.

At the end of the interview, Rinkēvičs admitted which product he cannot eat: "For some reason, I cannot handle beets. Not at all."
