Andrologist: prostatitis increases the risk of infertility in men.
About one in three men over the age of 30 experiences inflammation of the prostate, which increases the risk of infertility.
According to andrologist Elena Novikova, signs of prostate inflammation are present in 30-45 percent of men of reproductive age. Many are even unaware of this, as the disease can progress silently, without pronounced pain or urinary problems.
This form poses a threat to a man's reproductive function, the andrologist clarified. She explained that inflammation in the prostate can lead to irreversible processes: scarring of tissues, impaired blood circulation, reduced sperm production, and decreased motility.
"Doctors identify several forms of prostatitis: acute bacterial, chronic bacterial, chronic abacterial, and asymptomatic. Not all of them directly lead to infertility, but chronic forms (especially bacterial) are most often associated with impaired reproductive function," Novikova specified.
At the same time, the doctor emphasized that timely treatment can help manage inflammation and avoid its unpleasant consequences, including reduced fertility.
