Gagosian закрывает временные галереи в Лондоне и Базеле

The international network of Gagosian galleries has announced the closure of two of its exhibition spaces — in London and Basel. Both locations were originally conceived as temporary projects and operated in rented spaces as long as it remained economically viable.

The London gallery in the historic Burlington Arcade, opened in 2023, was the most compact among Gagosian's venues in the British capital. On the first level, there was a shop with books, editioned prints, and souvenir products, while the second level housed a small exhibition space, which hosted 16 exhibitions during its operation. The gallery still retains two permanent venues in the prestigious Mayfair area.

The Basel space was established in 2019 as a temporary initiative coinciding with the major art fair Art Basel. Despite initial plans, the gallery operated for seven years, during which it hosted 17 exhibitions.

The closure of both venues is part of a strategy to optimize the network: Gagosian emphasized that these projects were considered temporary from the outset and concluded operations after the profitable rental period ended.
