When a cat rubs against your legs, it may be a sign of affection, but not always.
Cats exhibit territorial behavior. It is important for them that their owner is "marked" with their scent. On the underside of their snouts, paws, and at the base of their tails, animals have glands that secrete a fragrant substance.
When cats circle around you and rub against your legs, they leave their scent, as if to say: "This person is mine!"
Additionally, cats may use affection to get what they want. By showing tenderness, they effectively "corral" their owner and gradually lead them to where they need to go, such as to an overflowing litter box or an empty food bowl. And before you know it, you are doing what your pet expects.
However, sometimes such behavior can indicate health problems. If a cat is walking in circles and has impaired coordination, it may be a sign of ear infections, head injuries, hypertension, hypoglycemia, or vestibular disorders. Senior cats with chronic illnesses are at higher risk.
Additional concerning symptoms include drooling from one side of the mouth, dryness in one eye, and vomiting. In such cases, veterinary assistance is required.
Love your pets, spend more time with them, and they will never be bored!
