Caring for Tomatoes in August for a Great Harvest

By providing tomatoes with proper care in the last month of summer, a rich harvest can be expected.

As autumn approaches, it is especially pleasant to prepare dishes with fresh homegrown tomatoes. They can also be used for canning to stock up for winter. What care do tomatoes need at the end of summer?

Watering

At this stage of the plant's development, it is recommended to water tomatoes more frequently, especially when moisture levels decrease. If August turns out to be hot, watering should be done regularly.

If the soil dries out and then a large amount of water is added, the fruits may start to crack right on the branches.

Mulching

Mulching has several beneficial functions. In August, the weather can be unpredictable: it can be unbearably hot during the day and noticeably cold at night. Mulch will help protect the root system of the tomatoes from the whims of the weather.

Ash

Don't forget about fertilization in August, as tomatoes need nutrients. The main focus should be on potassium fertilizers.

This will help the vegetables grow tasty, sweet, and well-preserved. Preparing the fertilizer is simple: dissolve 250 grams of ash in a bucket of water, mix, and water the plants. It is recommended to use two liters of fertilizer for each plant.
