This is not the most sensible choice, says gastroenterologist Anna YUSHENKO.
The main function of a refrigerator is to slow down the reproduction of harmful microorganisms in food.
To achieve this goal, an optimal temperature has been established at which bacteria develop more slowly (approximately from 0 to 4 degrees Celsius). However, when storing food on the balcony, it is impossible to maintain these temperature norms due to constant temperature fluctuations: it can be too cold at night and sunny during the day.
If faced with the choice between leaving food at room temperature or taking it out to the balcony, the latter option may seem more preferable, but in any case, storing food this way poses a risk.
