On the Kekava bypass road, a Hyundai driver stopped on the highway, turned around, and began driving in the opposite lane. The dangerous maneuver was captured on the dashcams of other vehicles, and the police have begun an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
A dangerous incident occurred on the Kekava bypass road, which, according to the police, fortunately did not end in a serious accident. The Hyundai driver was initially moving significantly slower than the general flow of traffic, then stopped and turned around right on the highway, starting to drive in the opposite lane. This was reported by the show Degpunktā on TV3.
One of the motorists reported the incident to the police. According to him, the Hyundai was traveling at about 50 km/h, causing other cars to swerve around it.
"I managed to avoid a collision at the last moment. I honked at him and drove on, and then it seemed like he tried to ram my car," the driver said.
The head of the Kekava municipal police, Maris Bominš, stated that the section of the road made the maneuver particularly dangerous.
"He stopped on the highway and decided to turn around, effectively starting to drive in the opposite lane. The speed limit here is 110 km/h, and the maneuver was performed before a turn with limited visibility. This was an extremely dangerous situation," Bominš noted.
After stopping the vehicle, it was discovered that the driver was a citizen of India.
The driver himself stated that he felt like a victim of harassment by another motorist. According to him, the other driver was following him and later got out of the car. The man claims he tried to find out the reason for such behavior and feared for his safety.
The police checked the driver for alcohol. No signs of intoxication were found.
At the same time, law enforcement officials noted that recordings from dashcams allow for a detailed reconstruction of the circumstances of the incident. It is based on this material that a decision will be made regarding the possible responsibility of the driver.
Additionally, the police will verify the validity and right to use the driver's license issued to the man in India.
According to Maris Bominš, the reviewed video recordings indicate that a tragedy was avoided only due to the timely reaction of other road users.
The investigation is ongoing, and a final legal assessment of the driver's actions will be provided after all checks are completed.
