A regular customer of the Mego store in Jugla, Riga, died shortly after exiting the store. According to witnesses, the man bought alcohol, went outside, and lost consciousness on the sidewalk, reports TV3.
On Tuesday, shoppers at the store saw a body covered with a blue tarp at the entrance. Nearby were State Police officers waiting for the arrival of a morgue transport.
A Mego employee reported that the elderly man was a regular customer of the store. The staff saw him purchase alcohol and exit through the front doors, but they did not witness what happened next.
When the man fell, a passerby immediately called for medical help and, following the dispatcher’s instructions, tried to keep him alive until the ambulance arrived. Soon, two emergency medical teams and a specialized medical team arrived at the scene and continued resuscitation efforts.
"Medics conducted intensive resuscitation efforts for about 40 minutes, doing everything possible to save the victim. Despite the assistance provided, unfortunately, they were unable to save his life," reported Laura Berzina, a representative of the Emergency Medical Service (NMPD).
The exact cause of death will be determined by an examination. It is not ruled out that it may have been related to prolonged excessive alcohol consumption.
