Residents of Agenskalns reported to the police about a driver who, according to them, was significantly exceeding the speed limit and behaving inadequately.

After the detention, a 58-year-old man was sent for a medical examination to determine whether he was under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicating substances, reports the show Degpunktā (TV3).

According to eyewitnesses, the car was moving through the streets of the area at a speed of about 70–80 km/h.

"At a speed of 70–80 kilometers per hour, he flew past us. My wife initially thought someone was unwell. But it looked like he was drunk," said one eyewitness.

Residents also reported that the driver was making strange maneuvers, after which they contacted the Riga Municipal Police.

A representative of the Riga Municipal Police, Ieva Lukaja-Apalupa, reported that after stopping the vehicle, the officers began a conversation with the driver.

"During the conversation, the man behaved quite aggressively and emotionally unstable. He was detained."

According to local residents, after the detention, the man was shouting loudly and singing the national anthem with distorted words.

"I can say that he was drunk. Yesterday he was heavily intoxicated and behaved very poorly," said local resident Iveta.

Other eyewitnesses also noted that they had the impression that the driver was in a state of intoxication.

After the detention, the man was taken for examination. The results should determine whether he was under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicating substances. So far, no official information about the results of the study has been published.
