On Tuesday in Jelgava, 27 people were evacuated from an apartment in a nine-story residential building due to a gas leak. This was reported by the State Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS).
The call came in at 11:31 on Loka Street. At the scene, it was determined that there was a gas leak from the gas stove in an apartment on the seventh floor.
Firefighters evacuated a person who was in the apartment from the danger zone and handed them over to a medical team.
For safety reasons, the State Police evacuated 27 residents from the building.
In the case of a domestic gas leak, even a small spark can lead to an explosion, so in such situations, rescuers quickly evacuate people until the danger is eliminated.
By 12:07, specialists had completed their work at the scene, after which the threat was eliminated.
The SFRS also reported that over the past 24 hours, firefighters responded to fires involving garbage, electrical wiring, grain fields, a passenger car, dry grass, forest litter, wood, as well as calls due to unattended food on the stove and a burning window.
