The State Police has initiated an internal investigation following reports that an unknown man allegedly spoke to a minor girl in Jelgava. At the same time, law enforcement notes that the situation may have been a misunderstanding.
The State Police of Latvia is conducting an internal investigation regarding an incident that occurred on July 23 in Jelgava. On that day, law enforcement received a report about a man who, according to preliminary information, approached a minor girl and spoke to her.
According to the police, after receiving the information, a crew from the Jelgava Municipal Police arrived at the area of Karklu and Putnu streets at the request of the State Police, where they detained the suspicious man. He was then handed over to the State Police for further procedural actions.
After verifying the initial information, an internal investigation was initiated. Preliminary data suggests that the incident may have been misinterpreted; however, it is too early to draw final conclusions. All circumstances of the incident will be thoroughly clarified during the investigation.
At the same time, the State Police commented on the messages circulating on social media that the detained individual is allegedly a citizen of a third country. Law enforcement emphasized that this information is not accurate. According to the police, the man is a citizen of Latvia and has mental disorders.
After the internal investigation is completed, the police will provide a final assessment of the incident and report on its results.
