The State Police has completed the investigation of the criminal case against the teacher from Engure, who is suspected of committing 25 episodes of sexual crimes against minors. The materials have already been forwarded to the prosecutor's office to initiate criminal prosecution.
The investigation began on November 20, 2025, after one of the children told his father about possible sexual abuse by the leader of a school club — a man born in 1950. The information received was forwarded to the State Police, which opened a criminal case, LETA reports.
During operational activities, the suspect was detained, and on November 22, the court chose a measure of restraint in the form of detention. He remains in custody to this day.
The investigation established that the alleged crimes could have been committed from April 2023 to November 2025. During this time, the police conducted a large-scale investigation: procedural actions were carried out involving about 50 people, nine of whom were granted the status of particularly protected victims.
According to the police, a total of 25 episodes of alleged crimes have been identified.
Most of them are classified as sexual acts against minors using trust, authority, or other influence over the victims. Some episodes are classified under other articles of the Criminal Code related to sexual crimes against individuals under 16 years of age. The most serious charges carry a penalty of imprisonment for up to 15 years.
On July 6, the criminal case was referred to the Zemgale District Prosecutor's Office for a decision on the initiation of criminal prosecution.
The State Police thanked the parents of the minors for their cooperation and the information provided during the investigation. Law enforcement also urged parents to regularly talk to their children about what is happening at school, in clubs, and in other places so that any illegal actions can be identified as early as possible.
It was previously reported that after receiving information from parents, the school administration contacted the police. According to the school director, the number of possible victims was not disclosed at that time in the interest of the investigation.
