In Lubāna, Madona Municipality, a family conflict ended with a large fire — after an argument with his mother, a man allegedly set fire to the attached veranda of the house. The fire quickly engulfed the wooden house, and neighbors report that the man had long-standing aggression issues.

A large fire destroyed a residential house in Lubāna, Madona Municipality, following a family conflict between a mother and son.

According to the Degpunktā program (TV3), the fire broke out late in the evening after yet another argument in the family.

Neighbors reported that the 35-year-old man allegedly stated after the conflict with his mother: "Let the house burn," and shortly thereafter, the attached veranda caught fire.

"He was arguing, and it seems he even hit his mother, and said in the end — let the house burn and all the troubles that came from it," said neighbor Anna, who heard the conflict.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, the house was already engulfed in flames.

Neighbors say that dry weather and wooden structures contributed to the rapid spread of the fire.

After the fire, the area around the house was cordoned off with warning tape, and furniture and belongings that rescuers had thrown outside during the firefighting were lying nearby. According to the State Fire and Rescue Service, the call came in at 23:35.

"A two-story residential house with an area of 140 square meters was burning," reported GPSS representative Sandra Veiņa.

Before the rescuers arrived, two people managed to evacuate from the building. One of them was handed over to medical personnel. The fire was completely extinguished only around 4:41 AM.

Neighbors claim that conflicts in the family occurred regularly. According to them, the man had long been on the police's radar, and those around had repeatedly noticed aggressive behavior.

"She always protected him. All his thefts, fights — she covered for him," one of the neighbors said about the man's mother.

After being examined by medical personnel, the woman was released, and she is currently staying with relatives. The man left the scene with law enforcement after the incident.

Neighbors doubt that the house can be restored at all. Nevertheless, residents have already started helping the affected woman — collecting clothes and essential items.

Such cases of domestic violence and conflicts often end in tragic consequences, especially if problems remain unaddressed by services or those around for a long time.

The story in Lubāna has become yet another example of how prolonged family conflicts can lead to devastating consequences not only for people but also for their homes and lives.
