The deal to buy out shares of "Latvijas mobilais telefons" (LMT) and "Tet" from the Swedish telecommunications company "Telia" will not happen under the current government, the Ministry of Economics stated.
"Telia" has agreed to extend the deadline.
According to the minister, the current government, which is a technical one, cannot make such a responsible decision as it may be politically emotional.
The minister added that the main task of this government is to prepare the appropriate deal.
Work is still underway to assess the companies and prepare the process so that potential buyers, which in this case are both state-owned enterprises and a strategic investor, can make a final offer to the government. This week, potential investors will arrive in Latvia and make their initial proposals, the minister said.
