In June, the number of registered unemployed in Latvia increased. Over the month, another 1,272 people registered with the State Employment Agency, and the overall registered unemployment rate rose to 4.6% of the economically active population.

According to the State Employment Agency, at the end of June, there were 41,252 registered unemployed in the country. In comparison, a month earlier, there were 39,980 people registered.

As a result, the registered unemployment rate increased from 4.5% to 4.6% of the economically active population.

The most favorable situation still remains in the Riga region. Here, the registered unemployment rate was 3.7%, although compared to May, it also increased by 0.2 percentage points.

The highest unemployment remains in Latgale — 9.4%. However, this region became an exception: compared to the end of May, the rate here slightly decreased — by 0.1 percentage points.

In the other regions of the country, a slight increase was also recorded. In Vidzeme, the registered unemployment rate reached 4.1%, in Zemgale — 4.4%, and in Kurzeme — 4.5%. In all three cases, the rate increased by 0.1 percentage points over the month.

For the residents of the country, this means that after several months of decline, unemployment is once again showing a slight increase. While the changes remain insignificant, statistics show that the number of people seeking work through the State Employment Agency increased in June.

At the same time, the registered unemployment rate is still lower than at the end of last year. Then it was 5% of the economically active population.

Further dynamics will depend on the labor market situation and seasonal changes in employment, which traditionally affect the statistics in the summer months.
