Due to the cessation of activities of two companies, nearly 300 people may lose their jobs in Daugavpils, reports the portal grani.lv and LTV.
The subsidiary of the state-owned company Latvijas dzelzceļš — LDz Cargo — has begun the procedure for collective layoffs, while the international digital services company Concentrix is completely ceasing operations in the city.
LDz Cargo reported that a decision has been made to initiate the process of mass staff reductions. Layoffs are planned to begin on August 1.
According to LTV, the exact number of employees being laid off is still being clarified; however, it currently concerns approximately 150 employees.
In turn, grani.lv reports that within three months, LDz Cargo intends to eliminate 309 positions, which will become one of the largest collective layoffs in recent years in the field of railway freight transportation in Latvia.
According to available information, the layoffs will begin on August 1, 2026. Currently, the company employs 1,037 staff members, and the staffing schedule includes 993 positions.
Another provider of unemployment is the company Concentrix. It began operations in Daugavpils in early 2025 under the brand WebHelp, opening an office in the premises of Daugavpils University. As of March, the company was looking for new employees; however, now, according to LTV, the office lease will not be renewed.
The company plans to cease operations in Daugavpils on October 1, resulting in the loss of about 100 jobs.
It was previously reported that LDz Cargo's turnover in the first quarter of this year amounted to 17.107 million euros, which is 13.9% less than in the same period of 2025. At the same time, the company's losses increased by 23.8% and reached 2.332 million euros, according to data published by the company.
