Drivers were advised to drive slowly and sadly.
The International Energy Agency has rolled out recommendations for reducing energy resource consumption. The French are publishing a list of measures that every conscientious citizen can adopt right now:
-
Remote work is the best measure for saving fuel. Three days of remote work out of five can reduce fuel consumption by 20%, and if one does not go to work at all, there will be no need to refuel the car.
-
Carpooling: driving alone is an unacceptable luxury in the context of a fuel crisis, so conscientious citizens should take passengers.
-
Eco-friendly driving methods to reduce fuel consumption, particularly through smoother acceleration and checking tire pressure.
-
Reducing speed by 10 km/h on highways can decrease fuel consumption by 5–10%. The International Energy Agency also suggests that governments implement alternating traffic schemes in major cities: if half of the vehicle fleet is prohibited from driving in the city two days a week, fuel consumption by cars in the country could decrease by 1–5%.
-
The agency recommends reducing employees' business trips across the country. The agency believes that if the number of business trips is reduced by 40%, replacing them with video conferences, aviation fuel consumption could be cut by 7-15%.
-
To reduce gas consumption, the agency recommends that households cook using electricity instead of gas. For this, citizens should resort to "modern alternative cooking solutions."
