Sanctions No Obstacle? NATO Country Purchased Record Amount of Russian Steel

In 2025, the Czech Republic purchased nearly 830,000 tons of Russian steel.

In 2025, the Czech Republic imported a historically maximum volume of Russian steel. This was reported by the publication Kurzy citing the statistical office of this NATO country.

It turned out that steel supplies from Russia to the Czech Republic reached nearly 830,000 tons. This is 76 percent higher than the figures for 2024. In monetary terms, the value of imports amounted to almost 10 billion crowns (about 467 million dollars).

It is noted that steel is a key raw material in Czech automotive manufacturing. The main reason for the sharp increase in imports from Russia was identified as the loss of competitiveness of the Czech steel industry and the gradual decline of its traditions.
