Next year, prices for fuel and tobacco products will rise in Latvia, reported the Latvian Traders Association (LAT).
As a result of the increase in excise tax, retail prices for the specified goods will rise starting January 1, 2026.
LAT predicts: the price of a pack of 20 cigarettes will increase from €5.40 to €7.10, the price of cigars and cigarillos in a pack of ten will rise by €0.50, and the price of smoking tobacco in a 40-gram pack will increase by €0.90.
In turn, the price of gasoline and diesel fuel will increase by three cents per liter, and autogas will rise by seven cents per liter.
These price changes represent the minimum possible increase.
And that’s not all. LAT notes that the rise in fuel prices significantly affects the cost of food and other consumer goods: a 5% increase in fuel prices leads to an approximate 1% rise in consumer goods prices.
The association also reminds that the excise tax rates on alcoholic beverages will change starting March 1, 2026.
At the same time, LAT emphasizes that in several European Union member states, taxes have not been raised, and in Poland, a presidential veto was applied.
